QANTAS will resume flights between Perth and Singapore which were suspended in May 2014. The carrier will use two class Boeing 737-800 aircraft five times weekly from 26 June.
The Perth – Singapore market is also served four times daily with wide body 777/330 aircraft by Singapore Airlines, twice daily with Jetstar Asia A320s and five times weekly with Singapore LCC airline Scoot using 787-9. It remains to be determined whether QANTAS re-entry using a domestic configured hard product will have any real impact with the corporate business market. The lack of a daily frequency coupled with a large disparity in terms of hard product will work against the other full service carrier, Singapore Airlines, which offers frequency as well as a true international product on this market.
QANTAS International CEO, Gareth Evans remains positive this resumed service will be a success stating, “We know how important it is for West Australian business travellers to have seamless access to Asia so we’re delighted to be able to offer the Perth-Singapore route with a schedule and aircraft type that will make it commercially viable.”
Introductory Economy Class fares will be AUD 199.00 one way available for sale between 17 April and 30 April 2015.
