American Airlines moving forwward with merger plans

AMR, American Airlines’ parent company is moving ahead with merger options, with the most likely contender being US Airways. AA is presently in C-11 BK protection and is looking at ways to exit this, the merger with another carrier being a likely option. AA is a member of oneworld whilst US Airways is a member of the rival Star Alliance.

“We are approaching the point where we have greater clarity on our revenue outlook and cost structure and can begin to accelerate the plan for the new American. It now makes sense to carefully evaluate a range of strategic options, including potential mergers, which could make the new American even stronger.” – Tom Horton, American Airlines CEO, in a letter to employees
