American Airlines has confirmed it will resume services to New Zealand from June 2016. In a joint press conference in Wellington, American and QANTAS announced a new daily service from Los Angeles to Auckland using American Airlines’ 787-8 aircraft. The two carriers collaborate already collaborate under a “Joint Business Agreement” on Trans-Pacific services.
Air New Zealand has held a monopoly on the Auckland – Los Angeles non-stop market since QANTAS suspended services on this market back in 2012.
The new non-stop AA flight will be code-shared with QF and operate the following schedule:
LAX-AKL dep: 22:45 arr: 06:35+2
AKL-LAX dep: 13:20 arr: 06:30
Auckland will be American’s second station in Australasia once Sydney flights commence on 17 December 2015. Combined American and QANTAS will offer non-stop services from Sydney, Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne to Los Angeles, Honolulu, Dallas-Ft Worth and San Francisco with a mix of 747, A380, 777-300ERs and A330s aircraft.
