Jetstar no longer proceeding with Cairns-Singapore flights

Jetstar’s proposed non-stop Cairns-Singapore flights, announced earlier this year will no longer proceed. The flights were to have been operated with 2 class A330-200 aircraft. The Cairns Post reports that talks are now under way with other carriers including Singapore Airlines which last flew to Cairns in the early 1990s. It is not clear at this stage whether SQ’s low cost carrier SCOOT! would be used. The route was last served by Australian Airlines (AO) and very briefly by QANTAS with 737-800 after the suspension of AO services.

Jetstar refused to comment only re-issuing a statement from early June “”Jetstar is often assessing different route options as part of our growing network and we never add weight to one option over another by commenting or speculation about where we might fly nexx.”

JQ’s other 332 services MEL-SIN and AKL-SIN have seen a strong reduction in frequency and it is believed these services are struggling against Singapore Airlines high frequency full service flights.
