Singapore Airlines’ regional subsidiary SilkAir will add Cairns to the networks, its second Australian city after Darwin. Cairns was last served in the 90s with Singapore Airlines A310 aircraft. Previously the route was also served by Australian Airlines prior to the carrier;s re-integration into QANTAS mainline.
The new flights will be operated in a “triangular” manner tagged on to existing Darwin services. A total of 5 weekly flights will operate – 3 flights will operate as Singapore-Cairns-Darwin-Singapore and the other two flights Singapore-Darwin-Cairns-Singapore. Newly delivered Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured in two classes will be used for these services.
Subject to regulatory approval, these new flights are expected to commence 30 May 2015.
